NOI Alumni Spotlight: Alec Blazek, Nashville Symphony

For nearly 30 years, the National Orchestral Institute + Festival has been a training ground for orchestral musicians on the precipice of their professional careers. NOI alumni occupy positions in nearly every major American orchestra as well as numerous positions in premiere service bands. Many others are teachers, college professors and arts administrators.

Composition Seminar: Composing a New Opera on a Legend

Dr. Zhou Long discusses his process of composing his Pulitzer Prize-winning opera, Madame White Snake. Premiered by Opera Boston in 2010, Madame White Snake retells a legendary Chinese folklore classic through music that blends Western and Eastern cultures. 

Dr. Long will give a performance with Chinese music ensemble Music From China at The Phillips Collection on December 8, 2016. More information here. 

Rip The Floor: Competition & Showcase

Rip The Floor is an annual hip-hop dance competition/showcase hosted by Dynamic Dance Team at the University of Maryland, College Park. Many teams and crews from around the East Coast of the United States participate either to put on a great show or for a possible grand prize of $500!

CAFE Holiday Concert Production

A musical production featuring the beautiful sounds of the steel pan. Performed by the students of The Cultural Academy for Excellence (“CAFE”), a 19-year-old, award-winning, music-based academic and life-skills enrichment program. It was started in 1996 with the goal of encouraging young people to stay in school, stay out of trouble and perform well academically.
