In the early 1950s Henrietta Lacks, a young African American woman, was treated for cancer at Johns Hopkins hospital. Tissues taken from her body without her knowledge during that treatmenth ave since been used to grow cells for research purposes all over the world.

David Lacks, one of Henrietta Lacks's sons, will speak on behalf of the family in two roundtable discussions with other panelists as they examine ethics in medical education, research, treatment and practice from Fortune's time in eighteenth-century Connecticut to the current day.
