Patrick Warfield, musicologist and Doug Fitch, director

 

In 2018, the National Orchestral Institute + Festival revived Doug Fitch's groundbreaking production of Stravinsky's Petrushka, first created in 2008 at the University of Maryland School of Music and later seen in performances by the New York Philharmonic. Since then, the production has toured to other professional orchestras including the Oregon Symphony and the Columbus Symphony. The ballet score is infused with orchestra participation, puppeteers, live video and other special effects! In this conversation, Doug Fitch and School of Music musicologist Patrick Warfield discuss the piece, its design and historic context.
