An art installation of work by Salvadoran-born, New York-based visual artist Johanna Toruño. Raised in San Salvador until being displaced to the U.S. at the age of 10, Toruño was inspired and taught by her experiences growing up in the midst of El Salvador's civil war to use poster artwork in public spaces as a powerful medium for self-expression and provocation.

Toruño explains, "I am led by community, my ancestors, and the elders before me who have paved the way for me to do the work that I do. The black women and femmes who have created culture -- the queer POC who continually pave the way for all of us. I do this work as my place in this revolution of self taught game changers."

The installation will be active from 6PM until Midnight on Friday, September 13 and from 6PM until 8:30PM on Saturday, September 14.

On Saturday, the artist will be on site for the following talks:

  • 6-6:30PM: Meet the Artist
  • 6:30-7:30PM: Artist Talk
  • 7:30-8PM: Meet the Artist
