The approach to the Maryland Opera Studio’s 2018 production of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro is about staging the ‘then’ and the ‘now’ at the same time: what happens when 1786 kisses 2018? What does that time in history have to say to us in the present day about #metoo? Is it any wonder that we got to here when we used to be there? And where do we go from here? How do we all arrive at the truth and reconciliation so desperately needed in our world, and so humanly and transcendently rendered in the setting of Figaro? Join guest director Andrea McGray and other UMD scholars for this lively conversation before the performance. Light refreshments will be available.
