One of the causes of World War I was nationalism, which was a growing force at the turn of the twentieth century.  During this time, nationalism was also present in classical music, and composers often quoted folk or popular tunes.  In this pre-concert lecture, we will explore some of the popular tunes that are used in the program and examine how music can be nationalistic.
