Program Notes:

School of Music alumna and soprano Katie Baughman, a prizewinner in the 2014 UMSO Concerto Competition, performs Earl Kim’s 1982 composition Where Grief Slumbers. Mournful and introspective, Kim’s work dwells on loss and separation.

The UMD Symphony Orchestra and UMD Concert Choir then come together for Brahms German Requiem. While Kim’s piece quietly weeps, Brahms Requiem consoles, boldly celebrating the living and the cycle of life.
