Here's an update on what The Clarice is up to in February and March!
The Clarice is creating the future of the arts with provocative programs that invite you to share in the artistic process, explore important social issues and enjoy the arts in your favorite local hang-out. Here is some of what's now from The Clarice.
If you came to the NextNOW Fest, you might have seen PEARSONWIDRIG DANCETHEATER’s performance of A Curious Invasion on the steps of our staircase. Here are some photos from their performance of A Curious Invasion/Governors Island in the New York harbor in June 2014:
Dr. Faedra Carpenter, Director of Undergraduate Theatre Studies at the University of Maryland, has been appointed by the Dean of the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) to be the faculty administrator for the Foxworth Creative Enterprise Initiative.
The University of Maryland School of Music is proud to announce that alumnus Lieutenant Colonel Jason K. Fettig will be appointed the 28th director of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. A change of command ceremony was held July 12 at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Center in Alexandria, Va.
“It is an incredible privilege to be afforded the rare opportunity to stand in the shoes of the great musicians who have led this special and historic organization over the past 216 years,” said Fettig. “I am excited to continue to diversify and expand the presence of Marine Band in the artistic and educational communities, both at home and abroad.”
School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies alumna Erica Philpot (B.A. Theatre Performance ’13) made her Lincoln Center debut this month in “Tales from the Silk Cotton Tree: Inner Sanctum.”
It takes a fearless group of committed theatre artists to redirect the course of women’s roles in their craft. Since joining the Big Ten Conference, UMD is now part of that revolution.
Our 2014-2015 Season will be announced July 15th.
We open in September with the NextNOW Fest, a four-day, curated series of fun, interactive, and participatory performances by NextNOW artists and creative innovators. You will discover the next big thing through artful, interactive and unexpected experiences. If you are on our mailing list, details will arrive in your mailbox after July 22.
It happened.
Grad school happened.

If, of course, by “just like that” you mean like pushing a huge boulder up a monstrous mountain by leaning against it and trudging up the trail backwards so that you can never really see where you’re going and are never quite sure if and when you’ll reach the top.
You had no idea how much you needed everything that came before and you have no idea what will come next.
Audience members will explore the newly-renovated Dance Place with INSERT [ ] HERE, a site-specific contemporary dance event featuring three performers from the University of Maryland community. The performance features TDPS alumna Erin Crawley-Woods (MFA Dance ’14) and current student Lynne Price (MFA Dance Candidate), as well as senior violin performance major Alexa Cantalupo, who will provide live music. Costumes were designed by Aryna Petrashenko (MFA Costume Design ’14) and Stephanie Miracle (MFA Dance ’14) and stage management was by Annie Choudhury (BA Theater ’09).
