Fervent and dramatic, Hindemith's Symphony in B-flat moves with a playfulness that carries the piece ever forward. Even in its slower passages, instrumental voices twitter under the melody, creating a spectacular texture that propels the work to its energetic finish. Join us as the University of Maryland Wind Ensemble takes the stage to perform this band staple, along with works by Elgar, Simon, and Mackey. The program also features Letters from the Traveling Doll for chamber ensemble by Nicole Piunno, which tells the story of a girl who has lost her favorite doll, and the letter's she begins to receive that document its many adventures.
