Consisting entirely of UMD School of Music string faculty, the Left Bank Quartet will be joined by cellist Alan Stepansky for a performance of Schubert's String Quintet in C major. This piece, amongst one of the final works composed by Schubert before his death 1828, features an arrangement with 2 cellos, resulting in a rich and sonorous musical texture. Also on the program is Shostakovich's Cello Sonata in D minor, performed by Stepansky and pianist Allison Freeman.

Program:

Dmitri Shostakovich: Sonata in D minor, Op. 40
Franz Shubert: String Quintet in C major
