Come to Chamber Music 2.0 to find out what happens when you get musicians and theatrical designers working together across disciplines to create innovative ways to perform and experience chamber music! This event will showcase inventive variations on performances by NOI+F chamber music groups using classical music, storytelling and audiovisual production technology. In partnership with UMD's Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and DesMuse, the evening’s performance will explore repertoire that has been re-imagined and contextualized for today’s audiences.

This event is part of the National Orchestral Institute + Festival (NOI+F), a program of The Clarice at the University of Maryland. NOI+F trains aspiring orchestral musicians, composers, conductors and arts administrators from across the country in a month of dynamic music-making and professional exploration. Trailblazing conductor Marin Alsop was appointed as the first-ever Music Director of the National Orchestral Institute + Festival in 2020. In addition to conducting innovative programs onstage at The Clarice and at Wolf Trap, Maestra Alsop launched the NOI+F Conducting Academy for rising young conductors in 2021. In 2015, NOI+F began a partnership with Naxos to record one concert of all-American music each year—Naxos’ first partnership with a summer festival of its kind. The 2019 recording “Ruggles, Stucky, Harbison” received a Grammy nomination in the "Best Orchestral Performance" category.

About Our Partners

The ACADEMY FOR INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP’S mission is to engage UMD students, faculty and staff in innovation & entrepreneurship (I&E) experiences to prepare them to tackle the world’s toughest problems. They encourage students to be human-centered, prototype-driven and radically collaborative in their work. AIE has partnered with NOI+F since 2018 to provide space for design thinkers and musicians to work together to push the margins of what the symphony might become.

DESMUSE is a collective of designers and musicians dedicated to exploring the intersection of theatrical design and music. Founded in 2021, DesMuse members work as producers in partnership with a presenting venue to offer a festival curriculum that is both remote and in residence. By providing an educational lab space for designers and musicians, DesMuse looks forward to bringing this performer-collaborator curriculum to academic institutions and performing arts organizations.
