Opera meets Broadway. Classical meets jazz. Old World meets New World. Operatically trained mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey and jazz pianist Baptiste Trotignon shorten the distance between these contrasting styles in this "artistic triumph" (Europadisc) anchored by the music of Kurt Weill. Bringing listeners to the very beginnings of jazz with deft improvisations and bold arrangements, Thousands of Miles pays homage to composers who, like Weill, were forced to flee their homelands: Alma Mahler, Alexander von Zemlinsky and Erich Wolfgang Korngold. This tribute traverses through three European languages all woven together by stories of intense longing and homesickness.

Program:

Kurt Weill (1900-1950):
Nanna’s Lied
Pirate Jenny – Barbara Song (from The Threepenny Opera)
Trouble Man

Alma Mahler (1879-1964): Hymne

Weill:
Je ne t’aime pas
Thousands of Miles – Big Mole (from Lost in the Stars)
Don’t Look Now

Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897-1957): Schneeglöckchen

Mahler: Die stille Stadt

Korngold: Mond, so gesht du wieder auf

Weill:
Lonely House – We’ll Go Away Together (from Street Scene)
Der Abschiedsbrief
Denn wie man sich bettet, so liegt man (from Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny)
Buddy on the Nightshift – Berlin im Licht

Alexander Von Zemlinsky (1871-1942):
Und hat der Tag all seine Qual
Selige Stunde
