For 30 years, the National Orchestral Institute + Festival has been a training ground for orchestral musicians on the precipice of their professional careers. NOI alumni occupy positions in nearly every major American orchestra as well as numerous positions in premiere service bands. Many others are teachers, college professors and arts administrators.

As part of WMATA's SafeTrack Surge #14, College Park Metro Station will be completely closed from Saturday, April 15 through Saturday, April 29, 2017. During this time, WMATA will operate free shuttles to the College Park Metro Station from Prince George's Plaza and Greenbelt, and UMD will continue to operate UM-Shuttle 104 from College Park Metro to the university, allowing you to follow our standard public transportation directions.

This summer, Grammy Award-winning conductor and Albany Symphony Music Director David Alan Miller returns to the NOI stage. He’ll lead a concert of American Masterworks that will be recorded live and released on renowned classical music label NAXOS. We spoke with him about his most moving orchestral experiences, his return to NOI and his vision of the symphony orchestra’s future.

American composer and pianist Martin Hennessy has been named winner of the first annual University of Maryland (UMD) Opera Composition Contest. As the recipient of this award, Hennessy will receive a commissioning grant to collaborate with librettist Tom Rowan on their adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Young King, a parable that addresses wealth and income inequality.
