School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) faculty and alumni will take part this weekend in the African Continuum Theatre Company's benefit cabaret "J's Jook Joint," a modern-day twist on the historical "jook joint" experience. TDPS professor Scot Reese will direct the production, and TDPS alumna Thembi Duncan (BA Theatre ‘09) is the Artistic Director.

With great excitement we share with you that by September of 2014, the DeVos Institute of Arts Management will relocate to the University of Maryland, College Park, joining the College of Arts and Humanities’ robust portfolio.

The institute will continue its work in collaboration with the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, one of the nation's leading arts incubators.

School of Music Concert Choir

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the UMD School of Music’s Concert Choir will combine voices to perform Benjamin Britten’s moving anti-war masterpiece, The War Requiem on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 8PM and Friday, November 15, 2013 at 8PM in the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 8PM at the Music Center at Strathmore.

NACTA visits Jared Mezzocchi's projections class

The National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts (NACTA) and the School of Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies (TDPS) embarked on a new collaboration on October 28 as part of the five-year partnership that created the bi-lingual co-production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

A NACTA contingent, including two junior professors and one graduate student will spend three weeks working in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center with TDPS faculty, students and production staff, sharing each culture’s fundamental approach to theatrical production, stage management and theatre technology.

Faedra Chatard Carpenter

The Kennedy Center has announced that two faculty members from the UMD School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) have been selected to participate in their New Visions/New Voices May 2014 program. Assistant professor Faedra Chatard Carpenter has been chosen to be the lead dramaturg of the Festival and professor Scot Reese will be the director of Oliver of Brazil, a Brazilian take on on the Dickens classic Oliver Twist.

The festival is a week-long biennial program for playwrights and theaters to stimulate and support the creation of new plays and musicals for young audiences and families.

Academy Award-winner and four-time Tony nominee Estelle Parsons will work with students in the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) at a salon to be held Tuesday, October 15 from 1:30-3:20 p.m. in studio 3736 in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.

From Friday, September 20 through Monday, September 30, you can experience the Visible Seams sound installation in our Grand Pavilion. Created by Tomek Regulski, the music comes and goes as freely as the guests who come through the Clarice Smith Center every day.
