In their first recital of the semester, Aeolus Quartet performs works inspired by nationalism: Puccini’s Chrysanthemums, which the composer claimed to have written in a single night after hearing of the Italy’s Prince Amadeo di Savoia, Duke of Aosta; Sibelius’s introspective Quartet in D Minor (“Voices intimae”) evokes images of icy Scandinavian terrain; and Dvorák’s Piano Quintet in A Major is reminiscent of Czech folk music.
