Audition for the 34th Annual Choreographers Showcase

Auditions for the 34th Annual Choreographers Showcase are open to all dance-makers, aged 18 years and older, who live in Maryland, Virginia or the District of Columbia. Live auditions will be adjudicated by our expert panelists, Leah Cox and Zvi Gotheiner. Six finalists will be selected to receive an honorarium of $1,000 and present their work in concert on Saturday, February 4, 2017. There is no fee to audition.

Auditions will be held in the Dance Theatre at The Clarice on November 5 & 6, 2016 from 10AM to 6PM each day. Auditions are by appointment only. To schedule an audition, apply here. The deadline to apply is Monday, October 31, 2016.

Adjudicators

Leah Cox is an educator, performer, and choreographer. Cox currently holds the positions of Dean of the American Dance Festival and Term Associate Professor at Bard College. Leah is an avid educator, teaching classes for all ages and levels of ability nationwide. She has been on faculty at the American Dance Festival, Peridance, and Dance New Amsterdam and is a master teacher and adjudicator for YoungArts. Cox worked with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company in various capacities from 2001 to 2014, from Company dancer to rehearsal assistant and education director. She regularly reconstructed the Company's works on students and professional dancers. When the Company merged with Dance Theater Workshop to form New York Live Arts, Cox developed Live Arts’ education programs. Most notably, she oversaw the six-year partnership between Live Arts and Bard College. Her choreography has been presented in New York City at the 92nd Street Y, Dixon Place, the DUMBO Dance Festival, and the CoolNY Festival, in addition to other locations beyond NYC.

Keith A. Thompson is a choreographer, teacher and dancer. He completed his MFA Research Fellowship in Dance from Bennington College and currently performs and is rehearsal director with Liz Lerman. He has danced internationally for the Trisha Brown Dance Company and has performed with the Bebe Miller Company. He has taught master classes and workshops in contemporary technique, choreography and partnering for the Sasha Waltz & Dancers and at TsEKh Summer Dance School, the International Dance Festival, Tanzwerkstatt Europa Festival and the Korea Dance Festival. He has been on faculty at the Florida Dance Festival and American Dance Festival, and is currently on faculty at the Mason Gross School of the Arts Dance Department at Rutgers University. His company, danceTactics performance group, has performed at the Montpelier International Dance Festival, Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, American Dance Guild Festival, the Annual Feature Length Independent Choreography Festival and many other locations.
