Seeking to reveal humanity through new concepts and technologies, Huang Yi’s pioneering work is steeped in his fascination with the partnership between humans and robots. He creates works as if data was flowing through his limbs and mind, and he is the programmer of the body. While the world looked at robots as tools, Huang Yi looked at himself as a tool for dance.

After relentless pursuit of the industrial robot KUKA and countless hours of learning to program it, Huang has embarked on a journey that is a fulfillment of his childhood dream. Join us for a look at Huang’s creative process by seeing short segments of his larger choreographed work with KUKA, and offering up your own ideas for how to create art with robots and other non-human machines.

Huang will be interviewed by Prof. Satyandra K. Gupta, Director of the Maryland Robotics Center in UMD's Institute for Systems Research.
