UMD's Summer Chorus presents Fauré's contemplative Requiem. Filled with delicate textures and subtle harmonies, Fauré's masterpiece is simple and inspirational music that is quintessentially French. Rounding out this performance is Beethoven's Choral Fantasy for chorus, orchestra, vocal soloists, and solo piano. Through its juxtaposition of themes from his lied Gegenliebe and the Emperor concerto, the Choral Fantasy takes listeners through a fascinating journey that foreshadows Beethoven's grand Symphony No. 9.

Established in 2002, the UMD Summer Chorus gives college students, community singers and high school choristers the opportunity to perform major works under the direction of UMD School of Music graduate conductors. The ensemble rehearses for three weeks in July and culminates in a public performance at The Clarice.
