Prince George’s County Public Schools, through the Division of Teaching and Learning provides extended opportunities for qualified music students to participate in music enrichment programs. At present, the Music Enrichment Program for instrumental music includes elementary, junior and senior youth orchestras/bands. The Music Enrichment Program for vocal music includes the northern area and southern area elementary school honors choruses, the middle school honors chorus and the high school honors chorus. This year, the High School Honors Band, Senior Youth Orchestra and the High School Honors Chorus will perform.

The Music Enrichment Program has continually served to broaden the scope of musical performance skills acquired in the regular school program. Students participating in these enrichment performance organizations transmit to their fellow performers within each local school program an enthusiasm for increasing musical skills as well as a better understanding of the personal commitment required to be successful.

Under the leadership of Judith A. Hawkins, Supervisor of Vocal General Music and Lionel Harrell, Supervisor of Instrumental Music, the Music Enrichment Program has maintained its place in the instructional program. It provides a consistent level of excellence that is in keeping with the highest performance standards possible for young musicians.

This year’s Edward M. Felegy Honors Concert represents the culminating event for the Music Enrichment Program. It has received the full support of Kevin M. Maxwell, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer, Shawn Joseph, Ed.D, Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, John Ceschini, Arts Integration Officer, and Anita Lambert, Coordinating Supervisor of Creative Arts Programs. Dedicated music teachers, students and parents have worked cooperatively to offer this evening’s concert as a model for school districts throughout the country.
