Emerging TDPS Talent Chosen for 31st Annual Choreographers' Showcase

Five emerging choreographers from the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies have been selected to participate in the 31st Annual Choreographers’ Showcase, which is presented by the Clarice Smith Center Visiting Artist Program and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. The performance will be held in the Dance Theatre of the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 3PM and 8PM.

Auditions for the showcase were held December 7 and 8 with adjudication by Zvi Gotheiner and Sidra Bell. Seven choreographers from Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC were selected. Selected choreographers received an award of $800.00.

Third year MFA Dance candidate Stephanie Miracle will present a duet entitled Fork. Bethany Disque, BA Dance '13, will partner with Chelsea Boyd Brown, a junior dance and psychology double major in presenting If Only I Knew. Second year MFA Dance candidate Robin Neveu Brown and Connor Voss, BA Dance '13, will present The Construction.

The Washington Post calls the Annual Choreographers’ Showcase “a rite of passage in the D.C. area dance community.” The performance gives audiences a preview of the work of numerous artists who later become mainstays of the D.C. dance scene.

The showcase features six to seven distinct choreographic works in a range of styles each year including modern dance, contemporary ballet, aerial choreography, world dance, hip-hop and more.
