Bring your own harp and join Colombian-born Edmar Castaneda for a class that will be open for musicians trained in both classical and jazz techniques. Castaneda’s virtuosic command of the harp has revolutionized the way audiences and critics alike consider an instrument commonly relegated to the “unusual category” in jazz. Castaneda will share how he realizes beautiful complexities of time while skillfully drawing out lush colors and dynamic spirit in his playing. Through cross-rhythms layered with chordal nuances, come and learn more about how Castaneda has taken the harp out of the shadows and why he has become one of the most original musicians in jazz today.

This class is FREE and open to harpists of all ages at intermediate to advanced levels of playing. The class will be followed by a reception for the artist.

Presented in partnership with The Virginia Harp Center in Richmond, Virginia.
