An evening of operatic soundscapes pairing a semi-staged performance of Ravel’s comedy L’heure espagnole with orchestral suites by Britten and Strauss. In Maurice Ravel’s L’heure espagnole, vocal artists from Wolf Trap Opera share the story of a respected watchmaker, Torquemada, and his wife Concepcion's romantic escapades. Will Concepcion hatch a successful plan to deal with Torquemada’s frequent absence? Find out the hilarious consequences with Wolf Trap Opera and NOI+F!

Peter Grimes is a misunderstood outsider whose life is crushed by his community’s malicious gossip. Benjamin Britten's Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes draw parallels between the sea's polarizing moods and those of the community surrounding the lonely character. Richard Strauss’ Suite from Der Rosenkavalier offers a glorious overview of the comedic score’s most beloved melodies.

Program:

Benjamin Britten: Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes
Richard Strauss: Suite from Der Rosenkavalier
Maurice Ravel: L'heure espagnole (Sung in French with English supertitles)
