There is a systemic war on Black and Brown communities in the United States, with no accountability for the murders of unarmed young Black men by the very police sworn to protect them. Racism and unconscious biases create entirely different worlds for young Black men to navigate.

In this interactive poetry workshop, the teenage poets of the award-winning Split This Rock youth program, the DC Youth Slam Team, will facilitate discussion and lead writing activities on the #BlackLivesMatter movement and their role as young, Black poets working for justice in the nation's capital.

Visit SplitThisRock.org and follow @DCyouthSLAM to learn more about these amazing teenage poets who won 1st place out of 50 teams at the 2014 Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival. Recommended for aspiring poets, age 13 and up.
