Congratulations to Taurus Broadhurst, who is the recipient of the inaugural Audience Choice Award at the 32nd Annual Choreographer’s Showcase!

The winning piece was 1960 What?​. Broadhurst writes,

This dance was made in honor of the 50th Anniversary of The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It is dedicated to freedom fighters everywhere. #blacklivesmatter #icantbreathe

Taurus is now eligible for participation in The Clarice’s NextLOOK series, which, in partnership with Joe’s Movement Emporium, cultivates work in development by regionally based artists by providing time, space and dollars in the Joe’s Movement Emporium theatre venue for five days.

About Taurus Broadhurst

Taurus is a native of Richmond, Virginia who began his dance training with Ezibu Muntu African Dance Company and went on to attend Virginia Commonwealth University as a major in the Department of Dance and Choreography.

Broadhurst has danced in a number of companies, including Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, Chuck Davis’ African-American Dance Ensemble and Rennie Harris’ PureMovement. He has also performed in DanceAfrica in Chicago, Jacob’s Pillow, Exit Festival in Paris, France, M.T.V.’s Direct FX and Jimmy’s Uptown Café SoulErotica. He has taught at NYU’s Summer Intensive, The Bridge for Dance Studios in Manhattan, Harlem School of the Arts, CityDance, guest artist/instructor for Morehead State University and Artist-in-Residence at the University of Maryland School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies. He is currently Movement Specialist for Two Rivers Public Charter, Washington DC.
